Getting Started

Mode Options

You can choose from three modes, which change the level of difficulty, mainly by influencing your financial situation, but also by influencing certain gameplay elements. You can customize the settings of each preset according to your personal preferences.

New Farmer

You start with a good selection of machines, you already own some land, and money shouldn’t be your main concern. Recommended for absolute beginners.

Farm Manager

In this mode, you are left with nothing but a good amount of money to customize your fleet and farmland. Be aware of the loan that you have to pay back!

Start from scratch

You are left with little to no money, and you might need to help out on some contractor work before you can afford your own farmland and machines. Work your way up!

Maps

Farming Simulator 25 invites you to three environments for you to play in. You have complete freedom on each map. They differ in topography, atmosphere, and certain construction projects that are only available in a specific environment.

  • Riverbend Springs
    • (North America) - A winding river, lots of creaks & streams around historic buildings from times gone by.
  • Hutan Pantai
    • (East Asia) - Lush landscape surrounded by mountains near a neon-lit port city. Ideal not only for rice paddies.
  • Zielonka
    • (Central Europe) - Surrounded by ponds near a remote and quaint village, the landscape is picturesque & fertile.

All over the maps, there are special objects to find Historic machine parts on Riverbend Springs, mysterious Crop Orbs on Hutan Pantai and Golden Apples on Zielonka. Each town has a place to collect them - but you might have to help renovate it first.

Starting out

What kind of farmer will you be?

There is a lot to keep in mind when starting and operating a farm. First, you decide what to focus on. There are three main activities that you can pursue in the game.

FS25 activities.png

Arable Farming

Work fields, harvest crops, and process/sell them. Classic agriculture is the heart of Farming Simulator. There is already a lot of variety in the day-to-day farming activities.

Animal Husbandry

Tend to animals and sell their valuable products. To feed your animals, you can even focus on growing the corresponding crops - maximizing efficiency of the whole operation.

Forestry

Plant and cut trees to sell or process them for profit. Wood harvesting is a lucrative profession. Operating the machines will require a certain level of skill as well as budget.

Of course, there is a lot more to do. If you want to expand your business to build an agricultural empire, production chains and construction projects allow you to grow further.

Purchasing land

Depending on the mode you chose, you already own some land and a farm house. You can buy new land for growing crops, buildings, pens, or forests via the menu. You can also sell land you own if necessary. You cannot work or build on someone else’s land unless you’re doing contract work.

Create & Extend fields

You can use a plow to create new fields on land you own. You can also expand your fields or even combine them. Especially in the beginning, when you don’t have a lot of money, it’s a good decision to buy smaller fields close to each other and combine them into bigger ones.

First Machines

Since we advise you to start with agriculture, there is a set of machines you should own. Some will also be available on your starting farm if you chose the new farmer mode. Note, that you can lease machines instead of buying them - especially the expensive ones!

Finances and making money

Financials and loans

FS25 finances.png

On the finance screen, you can see all income and expenditures for the current month and the previous four months. Any loan you have taken from the bank is also displayed here. If you need more money urgently, you can take on additional loans from the bank. However, at the end of each month, you will have to pay any excess interest on the loans. Pay them back as fast as you can to save on interest.

Contracts

FS25 contracts.png

There are other farms on the map, which are owned by other farmers, unless you buy the fields from them. They’re always in need of assistance. On the contract screen in the menu, you will find different jobs available. You can also talk to your neighbors directly to see if they are in need of helping hands.

Contracts are a great way to earn some money, get a feel for machinery and processes, and allow you to test equipment and play around with crops and activities not yet available on your own farm. Contracts allow you to use your own machines or borrow the required equipment.

Passive income

FS25 passive income.png

There are various ways to earn passive income. Wind turbines, solar collectors, and various other types of generators. Some have high initial costs, but are often worth the investment. They produce a steady income without requiring further attention.

Arable Farming

Field crops

In Farming Simulator 25 there are 25 different main crops you can grow on fields. There are additional crops you can grow in greenhouses as well as many types of trees.

Ground Working

Liming (improves yield)

FS25 liming.png

Lime increases your yield. It should be applied after every third harvest when the field info tells you that it’s required. Use a fertilizer spreader to apply lime to your field. If a fertilizer spreader can apply lime, this is indicated by the lime icon. Apply lime first, then continue plowing or cultivating, which works the lime into the soil.

Cultivating

FS25 cultivating.png

Cultivating is loosening the top layer of the soil. A cultivator is usually all you need, so you don't have to plow before you plant your crops. Cultivation is much faster.

There are regular cultivators, shallow cultivators, disc & power harrows. Some direct sowing machines can also cultivate while sowing. They differ in working width, sizes of stones dug up, and the amount of weed they prevent.

Getting rid of Stones

FS25 rock picking.png

When cultivating and plowing your fields, stones can be dug up in different sizes. When driving over them, some tools and vehicles (like your harvester) can get damaged.

Smaller stones can be removed with a roller, while bigger stones need to be collected. Use a stone picker to collect the stones from your fields and sell them at the debris crusher.

(Periodic) plowing (improves yield)

FS25 plowing.png

Plowing turns the soil and goes deep into the ground. It‘s needed after you've harvested root crops and at regular intervals, otherwise you lose profit. There are plows, spaders and subsoilers available to plow.

Plows can create, combine, or expand fields, and prevent weeds from growing. You can use a subsoiler instead, it’s a cheaper and faster alternative to plows, but they cannot create fields or prevent weeds. Depending on the tool, different sizes of field stones will appear on the fields that were embedded in the soil.

Sowing & Planting

FS25 seeding and planting.png

Check the crop calendar for the appropriate time when each crop is sown or planted. Planting and Seeding describe a similar process, but for different crops. For seeding you use seeders, for planting you use planter.

Icons at the dealership indicate their crop compatibility. Fill the machines with seeds from a bag, pallet or silo. Then, select the crop you want to sow. Lower the machine and turn it on.

Soil & Grass Rolling (improves yield)

FS25 rolling.png

Soil rollers are used after sowing, when the field is already cultivated and the seeds are in the soil. With a roller, you condense the soil, and therefore increase its quality and the yield by 2,5%. You can skip this step if you don't have the time or money for the tool.

Grass rollers are different. They are used after mowing grass. If the grass is harvested, you roll over what’s left to prepare for the next growth cycle. By doing this, you automatically gain a fertilizing stage.

Fertilizing (improves yield)

FS25 fertilizing.png

To get as much income from your crops as possible, you should fertilize at least once per crop cycle. Repeat the process to increase fertilization to 100%. Between applications, there needs to be a growth stage of the crop. With a manure or slurry spreader, you can activate double activation rate to fertilize only once. There are different types of fertilizer.

  • Solid Fertilizer is used in combination with fertilizer spreaders. They're the cheapest way to fertilize in the beginning.
  • Liquid Fertilizer is used in combination with sprayers instead of spreaders. Buy the liquid fertilizer in tanks.
  • Slurry and Manure are produced by some animals and will appear near their pastures. You need a slurry tanker or manure spreader to apply it to fields.
  • Digestate is a free byproduct you gain from selling manure or silage at the biogas plant. You can apply it as fertilizer similar to slurry, using a slurry tanker.
  • Catch crops are another option to fertilize your fields. You can get one stage of fertilization by planting oilseed radish. This crop can't be harvested, but you cultivate over the oilseed when it's fully grown, so it fertilizes the soil.

Getting rid of weeds (improves yield)

FS25 weeding.png

Weeds present a high potential yield loss as they compete with crops for sunlight, water, nutrients, and space. You want to remove them as fast and thoroughly as possible. There are different stages of weed growth: small, medium & large.

  • Weeders will mechanically remove small weeds. There is an exception to the rule: a weeder can't be used with crops that are planted in rows (e.g. potatoes).
  • Hoes are used for medium weeds. But, they can remove small weeds as well. They are designed, so they can operate between crops that are planted in rows.
  • Sprayers and herbicide are used as a last resort for large weeds, but work on smaller weeds as well. The machine and herbicide are more expensive and come with a yield penalty for applying chemicals to your crops.

Harvesting

FS25 harvesting.png

Check the crop calendar for the appropriate time when each crop is harvested. You can see the growth stage in the field info box when standing near the crop or on the map.

Once they're ready to harvest, use a harvester with the appropriate header attached. Keep an eye on the respective crop icons at the dealership when purchasing a harvester/header.

Mulching (improves yield)

FS25 mulching.png

You can use a mulcher on any crop that leaves stubble: Wheat, barley, oat, sorghum, sunflowers, soybeans and corn. Use it after harvesting, but BEFORE you cultivate the field.

When growing grape vines or olive groves, you mulch AFTER cultivating to cut back the grass when it starts to grow and to prevent weed growth.

Transporting

FS25 transporting.png

f the combine’s tank is full, you can unload it into a trailer. Transport it to a selling point, factory, or put it into storage to sell it later. There are various trailers available: for solid crops, liquids, logs, livestock, etc.

Storing

FS25 crop selling.png

You can store select crops in a silo if you want to sell it later. Keep the price fluctuations in mind. On the prices screen, you learn how much money each business will pay for your goods. Silos can be placed on your farmland via the build mode.

Greenhouse Crops

Greenhouses earn you additional income. You can grow lettuce, tomatoes, strawberries, and many other crops. These crops can be sold at different selling points or processed further. You can place a supplementary water tank next to your greenhouse to increase the water capacity, as your plants in the greenhouses must be provided with fresh water.

  • Strawberries
  • Cabbage
  • Garlic
  • Lettuce
  • Tomatoes
  • Chili Peppers
  • Spring Onions
  • Oyster Mushrooms
  • Enoki
  • Rice Saplings

Seasonal Farming

FS25 calendar.png

Farming Simulator 25 features seasonal cycles. Spring, summer, fall, and winter come with their individual atmosphere and change the gameplay throughout the year.

Crop Calendar

The seasonal crop calendar impacts the time-frame you are able to plant and harvest your crops. Keep in mind that prices fluctuate depending on the time of year. You can deactivate "seasonal growth", allowing you to plant and harvest anytime.

Weather

The weather forecast affects your decisions. Keep in mind: While there is snow or rain, you cannot harvest your crops and will have to wait until it stops. Keep an eye on the weather forecast icon in the top right corner, implicating the impending change of the weather.

Snow

When snow covers the land and your farm, you need to be wary of slippery roads. Better get your winter equipment ready as the handling on your vehicles will be affected. Snow can be toggled on and off in game settings.

Weather events

FS25 Twister 001.jpg

Apart from the usual rain showers and snow in Winter, more challenging weather events may take place in certain seasons. Twisters and hail might take effect on your fields and bales that are not put into storage.

Once the storms pass, you should inspect your fields for any destruction and assess the impact on your crops.

Animal Husbandry

Keeping animals can be lucrative and add to the challenging variety of running a business. They produce valuable products you can sell directly or process further. Each of them have specific needs, especially when it comes to feeding.

Purchase & Transport

Purchase animals from the local animal dealer and either have them delivered to your pens and barns for a fee, or transport them yourself. There are special livestock trailers available to buy or rent.

Animal Housing

You have to take care of your animals by feeding them, supplying them with water and straw. Some require more attention than others, and some housing options come with automatic water supply or feeding robots to make animal care easier. Each housing type has unloading areas where you need to deposit food and/or water.

Animal Feed

Each animal has its preferences. For maximum efficiency, you can grow, mix and distribute the feed yourself or simply buy it at the dealership. Some eat Total Mixed Ration (TMR) - a special mix of silage, hay, straw and mineral feed. Keep in mind to prepare for Winter by storing enough food for your animals - especially if you grow and produce it yourself.

Reproduction

When animals are well-nourished and old enough, they start reproducing. New animals are added to your animal population if there is space available in your pens and barns. Keep an eye on the population.

Animal Products

Animals produce a variety of goods like wool, milk, or eggs. Some of them also produce manure and slurry you can use to fertilize your fields. Of course, you can also sell the animals themselves, which can be profitable if they are in good health and reproduce.

Chicken

FS25 Chicken.jpg

Chickens produce pallets of eggs, appearing next to the chicken coop. Put them in your vehicle with a forklift and sell them or deliver them to your production buildings. Chickens are pretty easy to care for, so they are a good choice if you just get into animal husbandry.

Horses

FS25 Horse.jpg

Horses are trained and then sold for a profit. Each horse has an individual fitness level. Ride your horses to train them and increase their value. They require straw bedding and wate. And, don't forget to name and brush them!

Sheep

FS25 Sheep.jpg

In order to sell their wool, you have to grab the pallet at the sheep pasture with a pallet fork and transport it to the local spinnery. You can also deliver the wool to your own production point for further processing.

Cows

FS25 Cow.jpg

Your cows always produce milk, but you can improve their productivity by feeding them Total Mixed Ration (TMR) instead of just grass, hay, or silage. You can also sell the cows for profit and use their milk to create cheese and other products.

Water Buffalos

FS25 Water Buffalo.jpg

Similar to cows, water buffalo produce milk. Since dairy products likeb uffalo mozzarella are quite valuable, processing their milk should be part of your buffalo business.

Goats

FS25 Goats 1.jpg

Goats are quite rewarding animals to keep because of their profitable goat milk that can be processed into goat cheese. They’re also easy to handle and don’t require as much attention as other animals.

Pigs

FS25 pig.png

To make pigs as happy and healthy as possible, you need to provide them with the right mix of feed (a base of either corn or sorghum) plus grains, proteins (soybeans, canola, or sunflowers) and root crops. Use their products to fertilize your fields and sell pigs for profit.

Bees

FS25 bees.png

Place beehives to produce honey that can be processed or sold directly. Placing beehives next to fields of canola, sunflowers, and potatoes will also increase the yield of those crops. Investing in hives (the bigger the better) promises a good return on investment.

Feed types and components

Always provide your animals with food and water. Depending on the animal, there are multiple ways to acquire food - either by purchasing it or producing it yourself.

Grass and Hay

Most animals need grass. You need a mower to cut it. You can plant it in a field or mow the meadows around it to collect it. If you want to make hay, you have to turn the grass with a tedder to dry it. Use a a windrower to cut the grass or hay into swaths for easier collection. You can pick up the grass or hay with a loader wagon or baler.

Straw

Straw can be obtained after harvesting a field of wheat, barley, or oat. Just collect the swath with a baler or loading wagon.

Bales

Bales can be automatically loaded with a bale collector. A cheaper but more work-intense investment would be a tractor with a front loader configuration and a bale fork.

Chaff

Chaff is the chopped crop from a forage harvester. You can make chaff from corn, wheat, barley, oats, canola, sorghum, soybeans, and sunflowers.

Use the appropriate header for the crop while driving the forage harvester over the crop. Unlike combines, forage harvesters do not have a tank and must be accompanied by a tractor and trailer.

Water

Water is transported with a water trailer. You can get water from a lake or from a water tank that can be placed from the build mode menu.

Silage

Silage is feed for cows and can be made from chaff or grass. There are two ways to produce it. Option one is to dump chaff or grass into a bunker silo and drive over the pile to compress it. Cover it and wait for the fermentation process to complete. Option two is to use a baler. Create a bale of grass and use a bale wrapper to start fermentation.

Total Mixed Ration (TMR)

You can optimize the milk production of cattle by feeding them TMR. The ingredients for Total Mixed Ration are hay, silage, straw and mineral feed. You can get everything at the dealership - sold in pallets or bales. To produce TMR, you need a tractor with a front loader attachment, a forage mixer wagon to mix all the ingredients, and a bale spike for transporting the components. You don’t have to mix TMR yourself if you got a barn with feeding robot. The robot will mix the ingredients automatically.

Forestry

Basics

Selling wood is a profitable business. You can cut down trees with a chainsaw or a tree harvester, depending on the type of tree and what you plan to do with it. A full-on forestry operation will require to purchase expensive machines, but feel free to lease them or try your hand at forestry in contracts.

Tree types

There are several types of trees, divided into two categories: Deciduous and Coniferous.

FS25 conifer trees.png

Conifers, such as pines, have small branches and long, straight trunks. That’s why conifers are ideal for timber production.

FS25 deciduous trees.png

Deciduous trees are more crooked and have many thick branches. Deciduous trees, including poplars, are mainly used for wood chip production.

FS25 decorative trees.png

Additionally, there are decorative trees available in the building menu. They are not meant to be harvested and therefore not profitable, but only nice to look at.

Planting & Harvesting

Trees are planted with special tree planters. Buy tree saplings on pallets. Different from crop seeds sold together, you have to decide which tree types you want to purchase exactly.

They should be de-branched and cut into logs before they’re sold. Deciduous trees are all cut by hand with a chainsaw. Expect for the cypress and stone pine, conifers can be harvested with special wood harvesters.

Transporting & Selling

Logs can be delivered and sold to the sawmill or further processed at a factory. The price of wood not only depends on the length, but also on the straightness of the delivered pieces. You need a log trailer to transport them.

Small, bent pieces will generally sell for less. You can also chop them up with a wood chipper to make wood chips and deliver them to the sawmill. You need a trailer to transport wood chips.

Forestry machines and tools

Hydraulic Breaker

FS25 hydraulic breaker.png

All over the forest, there might be rocks embedded in the ground. With the hydraulic breaker, you can crush rocks on your farmland. Collect and sell them at the debris crusher.

Tree marking spray

FS25 marking sprays.png

Fell or preserve? Mark trees with the new tree marking spray to indicate whether you or your friends in multiplayer should chop them down. Different colors and icons are available to mark trees. When accepting corresponding missions, some trees are already marked. Be careful to cut down only the trees you are supposed to!

Yarder

FS25 yarder.png

Use the yarder to conveniently transport your logs: By attaching the yarder to a suitable tractor in an appropriate spot with enough space available, and a massive tree at the other end, you connect two points in Silverrun Forest. A carriage between the two points transports logs over great distances and otherwise impassable terrain.

Winches

FS25 winch.png

Winches help you to transport logs by dragging them. This is especially helpful on steep terrain. By attaching a winch to your tractor, you can connect its tear-resistant wire rope to trees you cut down and drag them to their destination.

Productions & Constructions

FS25 Production Chains.jpg

Production Chains

Instead of just selling your harvest, you can make more of it byprocessing it further to increase the selling price of the end product. Either visit the local factories or build your own via the build menu if you have the budget.

Factories

Factories can process your harvest and produce a variety of goods and resources. For example, a sawmill will produce wooden planks from the logs you deliver. You can deliver the planks to the carpentry shop to make furniture, which you will eventually sell for the highest profit. This way, you earn way more money compared to just selling logs.

Farm Shops & Selling Stations

Other businesses operate as sellers for your crops and products. Some of them, like the bakery, can produce items, too. Farm shops, for example, ask for certain goods that you need to deliver, so they steadily generate income.

Repeatable Constructions
