The All-New 9R-Series Tractor now with more Power, Better Technology & Improved Comfort. There is a new player in town. Designed to maximise time in the field while optimising yield, the new 9R-Series is the latest contender for the largest, strongest and most technologically advanced John Deere Tractor on the market in Africa and the Middle East. This tractor is a beast.

A force to be reckoned with, the new 9R-Series offers maximum power and state-of-the-art precision ag technology. Equipped with all of the original 9R specs, the upgraded 9R-Series lineup is the only tractor series on the market offering a wheeled (9R), two-track (9RT) and four-track (9RX) configuration to ensure optimum performance, effectiveness and efficiency on all types of soil. It enables farmers to cover more ground in less time with greater accuracy and quality and reduce their operating costs, all while enjoying a larger, more comfortable cab.

If power is what you are looking for, John Deere is happy to oblige. The new 9R-Series Tractors come equipped with the revolutionary John Deere PowerTech™ 13.6L (830-cu in) engine.

Designed for enhanced performance and reliability, the all-new 13.6L engine offers 390-590 horsepower, optimal fuel efficiency and robust engine capacity throughout your day. We achieve this by leveraging a high-pressure common-rail (HPCR) system and a hydraulic fan drive. The 13.6L engine offers 13.5% more horsepower than the 13.5L engine, 3% more fluid efficiency, 50% less engine noise, a 27% improvement in repairability and a 13% reduction in maintenance costs.

The new 9R-Series is designed with the strenuous daily activities of farmers in mind. Delivering ultimate operator comfort and convenience, the operator station now provides you with extended headroom, a wider entry path, a larger integrated refrigerator, new seat options, touchscreen radio, footrests, and more. All 9R-Series Tractors offer the choice of Select, Premium or Ultimate cab packages to choose from.

At John Deere, we understand that farming begins before sunrise and ends well after sunset. We have designed the new 9R-Series to include new visibility packages for added operator convenience. These three new visibility packages provide additional lighting, sunshade, and camera options to ensure you are comfortable during extended working periods, regardless of the time of day.

With the new 9R-Series, you will always be on schedule thanks to the increased max ballast, designed for maximum traction and drivetrain efficiency. But what does this mean for you as a farmer? Reduced slip, increased power at the drawbar, and best of all, increased productivity.

To keep operators on track, all the new 9R-Series Tractors include a Gen4 Command Center, AutoTrac activation and JDLink™, which features an all-new StarFire 6000 Integrated Receiver.

With JDLink™ connectivity, as soon as the new 9R leaves the factory, it is ready for action. JDLink™ provides farmers with John Deere Connected Support™ and expert alerts to help ensure that your tractors operate without interruption. Please refer to your John Deere Dealer for JDLink ™ and Wireless Technology Approvals.

The StarFire™ 6000 Integrated Receiver is designed to reduce setup time by eliminating terrain compensation module (TCM) calibrations. With reduced pull-in and remote software download times, you have enhanced precision and control. All receivers are fully serviceable and upgradable to newer generations. Closing off the integrated technology is the highly recommended Gen4 4600 CommandCenter™ Automation Activation 4.0.

At the forefront of agri-technology, the new 9R-Series comes equipped with the latest precision ag applications.

AutoTrac™ Turn Automation allows for accurate and repeatable end-of-pass turns throughout the entire field. AutoTrac™ Implement Guidance (passive guidance) allows the tractor to travel off the guidance line while keeping the implement on the intended path. AutoPath is an industry-exclusive application that uses data collected from the first pass in the field to establish precise row guidance for all subsequent field passes, no matter the machine type or width of the equipment. Gen 4 Machine Sync™ creates a wireless network between the tractor and combine to enable on-the-go unloading by ensuring the grain cart arrives on time and automatically follows the harvester. Section Control is an application that turns machine or implement sections on and off automatically to improve efficiency for producers by reducing product overlap in the field. In-Field Data Sharing is another precision ag application that allows you to share maps and guidance lines and review the performance of machines working in the same field. All integrated technology is country-specific depending on in-country requirements and prior approvals by John Deere. Contact your John Deere representative for more information on availability.

At John Deere, we understand that efficiency, productivity, and ultimately profitability lies at the core of every sustainable agricultural operation. Equipped to deal with any challenge you may encounter out in the field, the upgraded 9R-Series is the perfect solution to deliver differentiated value to customers.

Why delay your success? Contact, or visit, your nearest dealer today to discuss the various options offered by the brand new 9R-Series Tractors. Farm more productively, efficiently, and comfortably.

The John Deere 9000 Series made its debut in 1996 with four models, the 200 HP 9100, 310 HP 9200, 360 HP 9300 and 425 HP 9400. These were large frame, high (for the time) horsepower row crop tractors suitable for large-scale farmers who needed to cover a lot of acreage under challenging conditions.

Over the years, the series continued to receive updates with each generation getting more deluxe features and more power. For 2015 (production is expected to begin in November with early ship dates starting in January), the series will now consist of six models (9370, 9420, 9470, 9520, 9570 and 9620) ranging from 370 to 620 HP with tracked (RT) and articulating (R) variants. For the high-performance demands of the scraper market, there are also four specially beefed up tractors ranging from 470 to 620 HP.

Powering the new series are three EPA Final Tier 4 (FT4) engines with 9370 variants getting John Deere PSS 9.0L power; 9420, 9470 and 9520 getting John Deere PSS 13.5L power; and the 9570 and 9620 getting Cummins QSX15 15.0L engines. At the Milwaukee Ride n Drive, it was asked why the Cummins power when John Deere had nearly as high-horsepower engines in products such as their marine diesels or generator platforms. The answer was simple, the torque curve and output needed to achieve the performance expected from 9Rs was more than those John Deere engines could provide. At the Ride n Drive, we also learned the 9R development team had been tasked with maximizing value. Three challenge areas were to control fuel expense, address power hop and ensure steady performance in varying operating conditions. We’ll touch on each of those below.

Your work windows are tight—no matter the time of year. Whether tilling, planting, seeding, applying nutrients or transporting, starting earlier and running later may seem like the only solution. And the larger your operation, the faster those windows close.

The 9 Series Tractors give you options to alleviate timing challenges, offering more power, more ballasting options, and more precision. Our higher HP 9RX models (710, 770, and 830) can seed with twice the cart load in the hills and go 1 mph (1.6 kmh) faster while doing it compared to our previous 9RX models.

The 9 Series Tractors give you the strength and power you need to pull heavier, wider implements with ease. You can manage your biggest fields in the tightest timeframes to achieve the results you’re after.

John Deere’s four new 9RX tractor models — which range from 470-620 engine horsepower — feature a large undercarriage and track system engineered to provide superior power, durability and improved ride quality, especially when handling large implements in the field.

Jerry Griffith, John Deere product marketing manager, 6-9 Family Tractors, says, “The 9RX has a superior undercarriage with a positive-drive track system that effectively delivers power to the ground; it features the outstanding comfort of our CommandView III cab with a new cab suspension system for improved ride quality; and it is designed with integrated performance features already available on our 9 family of tractors.”

These other features include built-in, fully integrated AutoTrac guidance and JDLink Connect information management, the e18 transmission with Efficiency Manager, and increased hydraulic flow for optimal field performance.

The 9RX tractors feature either a John Deere PowerTech PSS 13.5 liter engine (9470RX and 9520RX models) or Cummins QSX15 engine (9570RX and 9620RX models) to provide the torque and power needed to handle tough field conditions. The engine powers a large diameter drive sprocket and drive lugs that, along with optimally placed idlers and mid-rollers, work to deliver horsepower to the ground with less track slippage.

The tractors are equipped with puncture-resistant Camso Duradrive 3500 and Camso Duradrive 6500 (with Durabuilt technology) rubber tracks for optimal load-bearing performance in the field. The track belts are designed for increased life and durability, and are available in 30- and 36-inch widths.

Like its 9R/9RT siblings, the new 4-track tractors are available with the responsive, smooth-shifting e18 transmission with Efficiency Manager for automated control of the engine and transmission. This transmission responds quickly and automatically in the field for improved performance and increased fuel savings.

The tractors also feature an articulated steering system and the optional Active Command Steering (ACS), which improves maneuverability in the field and line-holding ability at transport speeds.

For improved ride quality, the 9RX Tractors are designed with a mechanical Parallel Plane Four-Bar Linkage system with 4 inches of vertical travel. This helps to control movement and isolates the cab and operator from sudden impacts and vibration.

The intuitive, easy-to-use Generation 4 CommandCenter with custom-built pages and green-on-green integrated technologies provides fingertip control of tractor and implement functions.

“We’ve also redesigned the hydraulic system in the new 9RX, which includes up to eight SCVs and delivers a standard 58 gallons per minute of flow, or an optional 115 gallons per minute of flow. It easily meets the speed and high hydraulic power demands of the large implements our customers often use in the field,” Griffith says.

In 2021, John Deere updated their 9 Series tractors. These are MY22 updates to them. Four models of John Deere 9RX four-track tractors are available ranging from 490-640 horsepower, the industry’s highest horsepower levels offered in a four-track tractor.

With three new 9RX models, the 9RX 710, 9RX 770 and 9RX 830 that produce rated horsepower comparable to their model numbers, Deere’s expanded 9RX Series stuffs an incredible number of ponies under the hoods of these tractors.

John Deere takes the lead in the tractor horsepower race. It is introducing the most powerful four-wheel drive production ag tractor ever built, surpassing Case IH’s 715 horsepower Steiger, which only debuted this past fall and briefly held that record.

With three new 9RX models, the 9RX 710, 9RX 770 and 9RX 830 that produce rated horsepower comparable to their model numbers, Deere’s expanded 9RX Series stuffs an incredible number of ponies under the hoods of these tractors. They get that muscle from a new 18-litre diesel that relies on EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) as the exhaust after treatment, without SCR and eliminating the need for DEF. With that system, Deere says the JD18 engine still meets Final Tier 4 and Sage V emissions standards.
