Steps for Growing Crops in Farming Simulator 20
General
  • Activate and deactivate equipment by pressing the button with a check mark and spanner.
  • Speed will be capped/limited as required by the equipment.
  • Remember to deactivate the equipment when not in use otherwise your speed will be unnecessarily capped and equipment will become more worn/dirty.
  • A helper can be employed to perform these jobs in most instances.
Cultivating

You have to cultivate the field before you can sow your crop.

  • Attach the cultivator onto a tractor by reversing into its coupler.
  • Activate the cultivator.
  • Drive across the field.
Fertilizing (optional)

Fertilizing the field will increase crop yield by 50%.

  • Sprayers/Fertilizer spreaders can be purchased from the store under the crop protection tab.
  • They can be filled by driving onto the icons near the Farm Silo (the equipment has to be installed on the vehicle).
  • In Farming Simulator 20 fields can be fertilized at any time before the crop is ready to harvest.
  • If fertilizer is applied after a crop is ready for harvest the fertilization will apply to the following crop i.e. the fertilizer is 'used' by the crop as it reaches maturity.
  • Manure and slurry can be applied when the player owns and cares for farm animals.
Sowing seeds
  • Use a seeder that's compatible with your chosen crop or choose a seed that's compatible with your seeder and harvester.
  • Connect the seeder to the vehicle by reversing into its coupler.
  • (for first time use and to fill up: purchase seeds at the Farm Silo (symbol is a bag with a seedling) when the seeder is connected to your vehicle)
  • Press the crop button until your chosen crop is displayed.
  • Activate the seeder and drive across the field.
Harvesting

Crops change appearance when they are ready for harvest. You can also check the Map (Overview - Growth) - there are four stages of crop growth ranging from pale to dark green. The crop can be harvested when it is yellow or orange. After the dark orange stage the crop will wither.

  • Use a harvester and compatible header that match your crop.
  • Activate the harvester and drive across the field.
  • Wheat, barley and oats will leave straw swaths behind them after harvest. You can either ignore these or collect them to use.
  • When the harvester is full or an unloading point is nearby the unloading side pipe will extend. The harvester will start unloading when the side pipe lines up a receiving point (trailer, silo or station grate)
Storage and Selling
  • Crops can be stored in the Farm Silo for later use or when waiting for better Station prices.
  • Station Prices are located in the Game Menu. Pricing is variable with indications of whether it's increasing or decreasing.
  • To sell your harvest at a Station you need to transport it there. It's generally faster to cart the harvest in a trailer but you can unload the harvester directly at the Station if need be.
